Déterminer la nature et la somme des séries de terme général unu_n définies ci-après :

  1. un=Arctan⁡(2n2)u_n = \operatorname{Arctan} \left( \frac{2}{n^2} \right) pour n≥1n \geq 1.
  2. un=sin⁡(1n(n+1))cos⁡(1n)cos⁡(1n+1)u_n = \frac{\sin \left( \frac{1}{n(n+1)} \right)}{\cos \left( \frac{1}{n} \right) \cos \left( \frac{1}{n+1} \right)} pour n≥1n \geq 1.
  3. un=(n−1)!∏k=1n(1+k)u_n = \frac{\sqrt{(n-1)!}}{\prod_{k=1}^n (1+\sqrt{k})} pour n≥1n \geq 1.
  4. un=2−nth⁡(x2n)u_n = 2^{-n} \operatorname{th} \left( \frac{x}{2^n} \right) pour n≥0n \geq 0 et x>0x > 0.

1.

Pour la première série, utiliser l'identité Arctan⁡a−Arctan⁡b=Arctan⁡a−b1+ab\operatorname{Arctan} a - \operatorname{Arctan} b = \operatorname{Arctan} \frac{a-b}{1+ab} en remarquant que 2n2=(n+1)−(n−1)1+(n2−1)\frac{2}{n^2} = \frac{(n+1)-(n-1)}{1+(n^2-1)}.

2.

Pour la deuxième, développer le sinus au numérateur en utilisant 1n(n+1)=1n−1n+1\frac{1}{n(n+1)} = \frac{1}{n} - \frac{1}{n+1}.

3.

Pour la troisième, introduire la suite auxiliaire vn=n!∏k=1n(1+k)v_n = \frac{\sqrt{n!}}{\prod_{k=1}^n (1+\sqrt{k})} et exprimer unu_n en fonction de vnv_n et vn−1v_{n-1}.

4.

Pour la quatrième, utiliser la relation th⁡y=2coth⁡(2y)−coth⁡y\operatorname{th} y = 2 \operatorname{coth}(2y) - \operatorname{coth} y.

Résolution.

  1. Étude de la série ∑Arctan⁡(2/n2)\sum \operatorname{Arctan(2/n^2).} On remarque que pour tout n≥1n \geq 1 :
    2n2=(n+1)−(n−1)1+(n−1)(n+1)\frac{2}{n^2} = \frac{(n+1) - (n-1)}{1 + (n-1)(n+1)}
    En utilisant la formule Arctan⁡A−Arctan⁡B=Arctan⁡A−B1+AB\operatorname{Arctan} A - \operatorname{Arctan} B = \operatorname{Arctan} \frac{A-B}{1+AB} (valable ici car (n+1)(n−1)≥0>−1(n+1)(n-1) \geq 0 > -1), on obtient :
    un=Arctan⁡(n+1)−Arctan⁡(n−1)u_n = \operatorname{Arctan}(n+1) - \operatorname{Arctan}(n-1)
    Notons SNS_N la somme partielle d'ordre NN. Par télescopage :
    SN=∑n=1N(Arctan⁡(n+1)−Arctan⁡(n−1))S_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \left( \operatorname{Arctan}(n+1) - \operatorname{Arctan}(n-1) \right)
    En développant les premiers et derniers termes :
    SN=Arctan⁡(N+1)+Arctan⁡(N)−Arctan⁡(1)−Arctan⁡(0)S_N = \operatorname{Arctan}(N+1) + \operatorname{Arctan}(N) - \operatorname{Arctan}(1) - \operatorname{Arctan}(0)
    Comme lim⁡N→∞Arctan⁡(N)=π2\lim_{N \to \infty} \operatorname{Arctan}(N) = \frac{\pi}{2}, on en déduit que la série converge et :
    S=π2+π2−π4−0S = \frac{\pi}{2} + \frac{\pi}{2} - \frac{\pi}{4} - 0
    ∑n=1∞Arctan⁡(2n2)=3π4\boxed{ \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \operatorname{Arctan} \left( \frac{2}{n^2} \right) = \frac{3\pi}{4} }

  2. Étude de la série trigonométrique. On utilise la décomposition 1n(n+1)=1n−1n+1\frac{1}{n(n+1)} = \frac{1}{n} - \frac{1}{n+1}. Le numérateur devient :
    sin⁡(1n−1n+1)=sin⁡(1n)cos⁡(1n+1)−sin⁡(1n+1)cos⁡(1n)\sin\left( \frac{1}{n} - \frac{1}{n+1} \right) = \sin\left(\frac{1}{n}\right)\cos\left(\frac{1}{n+1}\right) - \sin\left(\frac{1}{n+1}\right)\cos\left(\frac{1}{n}\right)
    En divisant par le dénominateur cos⁡(1/n)cos⁡(1/(n+1))\cos(1/n)\cos(1/(n+1)), on obtient :
    un=tan⁡(1n)−tan⁡(1n+1)u_n = \tan\left( \frac{1}{n} \right) - \tan\left( \frac{1}{n+1} \right)
    Il s'agit d'une série télescopique de la forme vn−vn+1v_n - v_{n+1} avec vn=tan⁡(1/n)v_n = \tan(1/n). La somme partielle est SN=v1−vN+1=tan⁡(1)−tan⁡(1/(N+1))S_N = v_1 - v_{N+1} = \tan(1) - \tan(1/(N+1)). Puisque tan⁡(1/(N+1))→0\tan(1/(N+1)) \to 0 quand N→∞N \to \infty :
    ∑n=1∞un=tan⁡(1)\boxed{ \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} u_n = \tan(1) }

  3. Étude de la série avec produit. Posons vn=n!∏k=1n(1+k)v_n = \frac{\sqrt{n!}}{\prod_{k=1}^n (1+\sqrt{k})} pour n≥1n \geq 1, et v0=1v_0 = 1. On a alors pour n≥1n \geq 1 :
    vn−1−vn=(n−1)!∏k=1n−1(1+k)−n!∏k=1n(1+k)v_{n-1} - v_n = \frac{\sqrt{(n-1)!}}{\prod_{k=1}^{n-1} (1+\sqrt{k})} - \frac{\sqrt{n!}}{\prod_{k=1}^n (1+\sqrt{k})}
    vn−1−vn=(n−1)!∏k=1n(1+k)[(1+n)−n]=unv_{n-1} - v_n = \frac{\sqrt{(n-1)!}}{\prod_{k=1}^n (1+\sqrt{k})} \left[ (1+\sqrt{n}) - \sqrt{n} \right] = u_n
    La somme partielle est SN=∑n=1N(vn−1−vn)=v0−vN=1−vNS_N = \sum_{n=1}^N (v_{n-1} - v_n) = v_0 - v_N = 1 - v_N. Étudions la limite de vNv_N. On a vN=∏k=1Nk1+k=∏k=1N(1−11+k)v_N = \prod_{k=1}^N \frac{\sqrt{k}}{1+\sqrt{k}} = \prod_{k=1}^N \left( 1 - \frac{1}{1+\sqrt{k}} \right). En passant au logarithme : ln⁡vN=∑k=1Nln⁡(1−11+k)\ln v_N = \sum_{k=1}^N \ln \left( 1 - \frac{1}{1+\sqrt{k}} \right). Comme ln⁡(1−11+k)∼−1k\ln(1 - \frac{1}{1+\sqrt{k}}) \sim - \frac{1}{\sqrt{k}} et que la série ∑1k\sum \frac{1}{\sqrt{k}} diverge, ln⁡vN→−∞\ln v_N \to -\infty, donc vN→0v_N \to 0.
    ∑n=1∞un=1\boxed{ \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} u_n = 1 }

  4. Étude de la série hyperbolique. On utilise l'identité th⁡y=coth⁡y−1sh⁡ych⁡y=coth⁡y−2sh⁡(2y)\operatorname{th} y = \operatorname{coth} y - \frac{1}{\operatorname{sh} y \operatorname{ch} y} = \operatorname{coth} y - \frac{2}{\operatorname{sh}(2y)}. Ou mieux : coth⁡y+th⁡y=ch⁡2y+sh⁡2ysh⁡ych⁡y=ch⁡(2y)12sh⁡(2y)=2coth⁡(2y)\operatorname{coth} y + \operatorname{th} y = \frac{\operatorname{ch}^2 y + \operatorname{sh}^2 y}{\operatorname{sh} y \operatorname{ch} y} = \frac{\operatorname{ch}(2y)}{\frac{1}{2} \operatorname{sh}(2y)} = 2 \operatorname{coth}(2y). D'où th⁡y=2coth⁡(2y)−coth⁡y\operatorname{th} y = 2 \operatorname{coth}(2y) - \operatorname{coth} y. En posant y=x2ny = \frac{x}{2^n}, on obtient :
    un=2−n(2coth⁡(x2n−1)−coth⁡(x2n))=12n−1coth⁡(x2n−1)−12ncoth⁡(x2n)u_n = 2^{-n} \left( 2 \operatorname{coth}\left( \frac{x}{2^{n-1}} \right) - \operatorname{coth}\left( \frac{x}{2^n} \right) \right) = \frac{1}{2^{n-1}} \operatorname{coth}\left( \frac{x}{2^{n-1}} \right) - \frac{1}{2^n} \operatorname{coth}\left( \frac{x}{2^n} \right)
    Soit wn=2−ncoth⁡(x/2n)w_n = 2^{-n} \operatorname{coth}(x/2^n). On a un=wn−1−wnu_n = w_{n-1} - w_n pour n≥1n \geq 1. La somme de n=0n=0 à NN est :
    SN=u0+∑n=1N(wn−1−wn)=th⁡x+w0−wN=th⁡x+coth⁡x−wNS_N = u_0 + \sum_{n=1}^N (w_{n-1} - w_n) = \operatorname{th} x + w_0 - w_N = \operatorname{th} x + \operatorname{coth} x - w_N
    Or th⁡x+coth⁡x=2coth⁡(2x)\operatorname{th} x + \operatorname{coth} x = 2 \operatorname{coth}(2x). De plus :
    wN=12Nth⁡(x/2N)∼12N(x/2N)=1xw_N = \frac{1}{2^N \operatorname{th}(x/2^N)} \sim \frac{1}{2^N (x/2^N)} = \frac{1}{x}
    Finalement, la somme vaut :
    ∑n=0∞2−nth⁡(x2n)=2th⁡(2x)−1x\boxed{ \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} 2^{-n} \operatorname{th}\left( \frac{x}{2^n} \right) = \frac{2}{\operatorname{th}(2x)} - \frac{1}{x} }
